Sound-proof membrane: advantages of application

The fact that it is necessary to have a proper level of noise insulation is not even a luxury, but rather a need for residential and office space, many people know firsthand. The sound of the voice range, the barking of animals, the blows of the front door, knocks and other unpleasant sounds coming from neighboring rooms do not contribute to fruitful work and full rest.

Special membranes are used as an effective sound insulation material, which is used in complex sound insulation systems, as well as as a separate layer. Let's talk about the effectiveness and scope of such layers.

What are membranes made of

The main element of modern TECSOUND sound insulation membranes is aragonite, a mineral of natural origin. It seems interesting that aragonite in the wild is a natural part of the shells of mollusks and the exoskeleton of corals, so there is no need to worry about the environmental friendliness of the material. Aragonite is a completely eco-friendly substance.

To create a membrane, the mineral is melted, plasticates and composites are added, which makes it possible to achieve the required performance qualities. In fact, such a composition can be safely called innovative, since there are simply no analogues of aragonite membranes in the whole world.

Advantages of the material

Among the main advantages of the membrane, it is worth highlighting the following criteria:

  • possibility of installation in rooms with high requirements for toxicity and environmental friendliness of materials
  • ultra-thin membrane thickness from 2 to 14 mm, which helps to save useful space in the room
  • high sound absorption and sound insulation
  • resistance to low temperatures
  • the membrane is non-flammable, which increases the level of fire safety
  • the material does not absorb water, therefore, the reproduction of pathogenic microflora, the development of fungus, rot and other microorganisms is excluded.

Separately, it is worth specifying the expiration dates put forward by the manufacturer. The official warranty for such soundproof membranes is 10 years, which in practice means an extremely long service life.

Scope of application of membranes for sound insulation

Membrane layers are used in the installation of frame and frameless sound insulation systems in residential and non-residential premises, non-production facilities, in workshops with a high noise level. A similar membrane is also widely used in the automotive industry — with the help of it, car parts are sound-proofed. It is applicable for gluing on doors and other entrance openings.

The TECSOUND membrane is used for sound insulation of ceilings, it fits under the floor screed, in roofing under the profiled flooring on the roof. Often the membrane is used as an independent damping layer for metal structures - under the profile, channel, etc.

What are the membranes

The membranes for sound insulation differ in thickness and the additional layers used. Conditionally , they can be divided into 4 groups:

  1. The basic variants are 2.6-3.8 mm thick, with a sound insulation coefficient of 25-30 dB.
  2. Basic with a sticky layer, the same thickness of 2.6-3.8 mm. Greatly simplify the installation process.
  3. With one-sided felt, density 60 kg/m3.
  4. Sandwich membranes on which felt is applied on both sides.
